UPCOMING NEW SHOWS I WILL BE REVIEWING: Parenthood, The Marriage Red, Who Do You Think You Are?, Happy Town and Sons of Tucson

This year I decided to watch every new pilot and write up a review. For hour longs, I watch 75% of the show if I don't like it, and 100% if I do. For comedies, I like to watch the entire 30 minutes. But when I watched THE RICKY GERVAIS SHOW, an animated diddy based on Ricky's Podcasts, I could only stomach about 8 minutes before tuning out. Yes, it was that painful. I am finding Ricky to be someone who is entirely full of himself. In fact, it's become really hard for me to watch someone that doesnt care about rules, as evidenced by his miserable handle of hosting the Golden Globes this year. Too bad, too, because I want to like him, and i wanted to like this new show. But now the love affair is officially over. F

WINTER TV REVIEW: How to Make it in America

This new HBO show from the creators of ENTOURAGE feels very much like that show, at times. But it's also MUCH more. Whereas ENTOURAGE cast four douches riding Vince's success to the top of the acting food chain, HOW TO shows two douches struggling to win the American dream. And it works. I gave up on ENTOURAGE because I grew tired of watching guys party, then whine when things didnt go their spoiled-brat-asses way. With the HOW TO guys, I can see myself in them...not financially where I want to be, having a dream to succeed, and living it out. B-

FUNNY OR DIE PRESENTS on HBO is the TV version of the popular online site that gained in popularity during the TV Writers Strike 2 years ago. Based on the first installment, FODP apparently is going to pretty hit and miss. I thought the first episode had some pretty UNfunny bits, and I hear the second episode doesnt improve at all. But these shows, like SNL, arent always on fire. For now, promising, at best. B

WRONG DOOR: I stumbled upon this show on accident while i was surfing the IFC channel on my DVR. I took a gamble and recorded the first episode, which came out in 2009, i believe. Guess what? It was fucking hysterical from almost the first clip to the last. In fact, for the last two days i have been pretending to be 'The Most Annoying Soldier in The World', a hotdog-loving, Yahtzee playing imp that terrorized those he meets. A

MY FAVORITE ABC SHOWS: Which ones are coming back this fall?

*BETTER OFF TED: This is one awesome little comedy that just never found the right audience. Blame ABC for always pairing it with a weak SCRUBS, and also burying it last summer in a timeslot that no one knew about. In short, TED is ending. Andrea Anders, who plays Ted's worker-buddy and one-time fuckbud, has already snagged the lead opposite Matthew Perry in the pilot MR SUNSHINE. She has already worked with Matt LeBlanc from two seasons of JOEY, and was also in the bRilliant bUt cAncelled THE CLASS. But I digress...TED is dead.
*COUGAR TOWN: ALready renewed. If ABC picks up the aforementioned Perry sitcom MR SUNSHINE, COUGAR and SUNSHINE would make for a "Friend"-ly pairing.
*THE MIDDLE and MODERN FAMILY: Speaking of friendly pairings, ABC should match these two sitcoms up from 9 to 10 on Wedn, or even 8 to 9 come fall. Oh, both have already been renewed for 2010-2011. YAY!
*DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: It's a no-brainer for renewal. Question is, will season 7 be the last for creator Marc Cherry. That's all he is contractually obliged to. Let's hope so. Even though the buzz for DH has waned, its still a top hit for ABC, even if this year has been a creative bore.
*EASTWICK: An early fave of mine, E grew stale by Xmas and was off the air. It's officially been cancelled.
*LOST: This is the epic show's 6th and final season.
*SCRUBS: Could THIS year be the year that "the show that never dies" , well, dies? Yep.
*UGLY BETTY: After four years of the same ole, same ole, BETTY and Mode become fashion history. The series wraps up for good in April. Oh papi!
*V: One of my favorite new shows of the season! It only had 4 eps to find an audience, so the question remains if anyone will still stick around for it when it returns. This show is a TRUE Bubble Show. Save it now!

(The above were my favorite ABC shows. Of the rest, here's what will surely return: THE BACHELOR, BROTHERS & SISTERS, CASTLE, DANCING WITH THE STARS, GREY'S ANATOMY, and PRIVATE PRACTICE. Gone will be DEEP END, THE FORGOTTEN and the already-canned HANK. FLASHFORWARD is totally on the bubble, but something tells me it will return. Of course, it all depends on how well it does when it makes a return in March.

2 Winter TV Reviews 2010: BOSS and PAST LIFE

PAST LIFE: A by-the-numbers yawnfest with stories originating out of a character flashing to bits and pieces of a previous life...but with the flashes meaningless and hard to follow, they gradually increase to reveal the killer. Snooze. But production values are pretty good. C-

UNDERCOVER BOSS: Hard to follow another reality show that feels staged, even if uplifting at times. C+
