WINTER TV REVIEW: Human Target

This FOX show starts out thrillingly and never stops, albeit the action of the pilot was shot entirely on a commercial jetliner. But the tone of the show is light enough where I can sit down and enjoy the ride and not be rolling my eyes at the absurdity of the action (After all, it's SUPPOSED to be over the top. Right?). Plus, Mark Valley is soooooo easy on the eyes. Hi, DADDY! A-

WINTER TV PREVIEW: Caprica

After a decent enough 2-hour pilot, I am intrigued to see where BATTLESTAR prequel CAPRICA goes. If not slightly on the bored side without any spectacular battle sequences that the original was known for, CAPRICA comes off as a think-man's sci-fi show, which is okay once in awhile, but CAPRICA is going to have to turn up the 'excitement' dial several notches before it will hook me. Still, it's fun to see how the Cylons originated...and the terrorist bombing of the super-shuttle-train was spectacular. B

Winter TV Previews: 3 BLAH SHOWS

LALALAND on Showtime, DEMONS on BBCAMerica and THE INBETWEENERS on BBCAmerica all premiered to yawns from me. IN fact, DEMONS has already been canceled. It was a BUFFY wannabe, while LALALAND just wasnt funny enough. As for THE INBETWEENERS? Seen it all before.

RATINGS FOR ALL THREE: C-

Winter TV Preview: Life Unexpected

NOW it makes sense why the CW was listing this show as such: Life UneXpected. I could never figure out that 'X' before. But since the lead character's name is LUX, well now it all makes sense.

This is one of those really well-made WB shows, though this is the CW, home of the trashy Gossip Girl, 90210 and Melrose Place. Will LIFE survive? I hope so! Will I watch it? Probably not. Though its well done, it doesnt quite stir me the way my SyFy shows and Supernatural does.

Still, give this one a B+

Winter TV Preview: Men of a Certain Age

This is a show that will grow on you. It has really good production values, and some excellent character work. I just don't want to watch it. Why? Because I am a man getting to a certain age myself, and I don't want to be reminded of this each and every week. But the rest of ya? Enjoy! B-

Winter TV Preview: THE DEEP END

I REALLY wanted to like THE DEEP END, maybe because I wanted to like GREYS ANATOMY, but I could never stomach the hospital setting (as a former nurse's aid, when I quit that job, the sight of any hospital makes me cringe). Unfortunately, THE DEEP END comes across sooooo fake that it makes PRIVATE PRACTICE feel like Emmy gold. Most disappointing for me was Tina Majorino's performance. Formerly of VERONICA MARS, she was the weakest link in one of the season's weakest new dramas. D+

WINTER TV PREVIEW: ARCHER

The latest animated laffer is a winner on Comedy Central. Adding lotsa laffs is former SNL funnyman Chris Parnell. Also familiar is former TALK SOUP-stress Aisha Tyler. B-

WINTER TV REVIEW: Blue Mountain State

How could I NOT love a show that had guys running down the football field wearing only jockstraps while clinching Oreo cookies between their butt cheeks. This one is, um, refreshing. B
